OUR STORY

The SOPA Book Club was established in 2019 and meets every week to read a book that one of our members recommends. At each meeting, we read with each other, discuss the reading, and study vocabulary words. Along with reading books, we also organize fundraising events benefiting local charities in our area.

SOPA Book Club will be joining the The South Pasadena Chinese-American Club (SPCC) and the City of South Pasadena in celebrating Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month!

SOPA Book Club is teaming up with local restaurant Xiao Wei to sell a variety of delicious grilled skewers and thirst quenching home-made refreshments.

Hi my name is Arthur and my role in the book club is being president which basically means I speak to others. I enjoy riding my bicycle through trails or on the street. I have two dogs and two rescue cats as my pets but also have a beehive and a flock of 8 chickens. My favorite book is the first Ender's Game. I am also a veteran of the book club.

Hello people of this world, I am Gavin, king of the frogs. Apart from my benevolent rule, I also enjoy coding, playing games, hikes, and bike rides. I live in Ohio’s Oklahoma and have volunteered for the organizations focused on aiding children hunger. I look forward to working with new people and can’t wait to see what’s in store for our club.

My name is William. I am a very academically-minded person with a 4.00 GPA and a participant in the school’s math team. Out of school, I participate in the martial art of Taekwondo, piano, and tennis. I am the current secretary of Book Club and am a complete geek/nerd. I am a veteran of book club as I joined when it was first formed. I don’t rule over the frogs I am a frog.

Hi, I’m Jeremy and I am a proud member of the SOPA Book club. I have many hobbies such as swimming, Boy Scouts, Coding, yoyoing, and many more. I love food and books and always want them. Some fun facts about me are that my favorite food is takoyaki, I like shoes, and coca cola is my favorite drink. Thank you!

My name is Cora, and I am a human. I am also in this book club. I have a pet rock named Rocky, and a collection of bobby pins that I’ve found on the floor. My favorite book series is probably the Percy Jackson and Olympians series, including the sequels and spinoffs, by Rick Riordan or the Awkward series by Svetlana Chmakova. My favorite color is pink and my favorite animal is either a unicorn or pig. I enjoy making art, baking, and sewing. I don’t enjoy putting information about myself on the internet, so strangers can steal my identity or stalk and find me.

Hi, my name is Dylan. I am 13 years old and have been a part of book club for about 5 years (2nd grade). I like to play tennis and guitar as hobbies, and I am part of the middle school tennis team. I study classical guitar at the Pasadena Conservatory of Music (PCM) under my teacher, Brian Barany.m

My name is Nicholas Asplund, but it would be better to just call me “Nick.” I currently rule over the kingdom of bearded dragons, and wait to see our club grow. My favorite book from this club is “Pax,” and in my free time I like to play with friends online or in person, video games, outdoor activities, and destroy Gavin’s career and his kingdom of frogs. I am currently waiting for this group to grow and expand, and I want everyone here to have fun!
